BOUGHT: 52 degree, 11 degree bounce, steel shaftI am a low single digit handicapper but I am getting older and have been playing golf for 40+ years. I play forged Mizuno irons with steel shafts - not blades but not game improvement either.I don't like blade-type wedges from the fairway for full wedge shots or when pitching long distances - even the forged ones. I like the feel of a heavier/beefier wedge on full shots. So, my typical pitching wedge is a cavity back which I like. My problem starts with the gap, sand and lob wedges which no one seems to make in a forgiving club anymore - All I have seen for years are the blade types which I don't like. Saw this and the advertising and thought I would give it a try. This wedge is great. It is almost as soft as a forged blade on full shots and is it forgiving like a cavity back should be - easier to find the sweet spot than any blade type wedge that I have ever used. My strikes are consistently more in the middle of the clubface. Those of you that are concerned about the size of the head need not worry: It is no bigger visually than a Callaway Mack Daddy at address. The only difference is in the thicker sole and back - which you do not see or feel. From what I have read, the thicker sole is hollow with some type of vibration damping material inserted inside that area which gives it more forgiveness from the fairway, a softer feel at impact and better perimeter weighting. Whatever they say is true for me: It is right up there with the feel of a forged club.I have not tried this from the sand yet and I doubt I will use it much around the greens since I like my Mizuno 921 hot metal 58 degree for green side chipping and sand shots. And I doubt that I would like it in the higher lofts for my purposes but it should really help those higher handicappers that struggle with sand and lob wedges. This 52 wedge will probably replace two of my wedges ( a 50 degree and a 54 degree) which will allow me to add a hybrid to my bag.
